Christmas Pattern Process

Art. Design. Any creative endeavor is often more about the process than the product. The world has the pleasure of seeing the outcome, yet may not know the piece went through many venerations to get to the place that it is.

Over the last few weeks I've been putting together some concepts for Christmas. Almost always, ideas start as sketches, then drawings. I snap a picture with my phone, import into Adobe Illustrator, begin playing with shapes, color, patterns, and then something useful appears. Or sometimes it doesn't. Here's a little taste of the journey from beginning to (perhaps) the end:

Step 1: Sketch. Draw. Ink.

Step...probably 3 or 4: Play with color.

Step 5: Play with pattern.

Step 327: Come up with something mostly finished that you like a little bit.

Would love to hear about your creative process in the comments!
